George A. “Buck” Meade, III, 71, of Troutville, passed away Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at Lewis Gale Medical Center following a brief illness.
Buck was born January 11, 1950 in Roanoke and lived in Botetourt most of his life. He was the son of the late George A. Meade, Jr. and Alease Morton Meade. Buck served in the US Army Reserve, retiring after more than 20 years of service and worked for Norfolk Southern Railroad retiring after more than 30 years of service. He had a very good sense of humor and loved life. Buck was a straight shooter and you always knew where you stood with him. He enjoyed his family, Dallas Cowboys, and jazz.
In addition to his parents, Buck was preceded in death by his sister, Francine Robinson, and is survived by his sons, George A. Meade, IV of Roanoke, and Maurice (Karen) Mitchell of Glen Allen, Va.; daughter, Angela Tucker of Salem; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his brother, Kenneth Meade of Sacramento, Calif.; sisters, Alease Sullivan of Troutville, Helen Ingram of El Dorado, Kansas, Grace (Jackie) Nichols of Roanoke, Teresa Meade of Temple Hills, Md., and Pamela Meade of Maryland; and special friend, Sheila Balderson.
A celebration of Buck’s life was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 12 at Rader Funeral Home, Daleville with Associate Minister Jerome Bonds officiating. The family received friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Sunday.
