COVID-19 protocols wiped out girls basketball games for James River and Lord Botetourt in the past week with hopes that things can get back to normal soon.
James River had games with Craig County, Bassett and Bath County postponed last week, as well as games with Covington and Staunton River this week. The next scheduled game for the Knights is Tuesday, December 21, at home against Craig County.
Lord Botetourt had a game with Floyd County postponed last Thursday and rescheduled for January 20. The Cavaliers last played on December 7 and took a 58-47 win over Blacksburg in Daleville to remain undefeated at 4-0.
LB went up by 10 early in the game but Blacksburg rallied to tie the game at 23-23 at the half. Consecutive three-pointers by Taylor Orange and Grayson Alfano sparked a third quarter run as the Cavs regained an 11-point margin by the end of the third quarter.
“Winning that quarter determined the outcome of the game for us,” said coach Rene Favaro.
Alfano finished with 15 points and Ally Spangler added 13. Gracie Huffard had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds and Orange had a nice all-around game with nine points, five assists and four steals.
The Cavaliers were scheduled to play at Cave Spring on Tuesday and on Friday they host William Byrd. Next Monday, December 20, the girls are at Floyd.
