Irving Ray Glover, 88, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2025, in Roanoke. Born on March 23, 1936, in Detroit, Mich., Irving dedicated his life to faith, family, and service.
Irving pursued higher education with a deep commitment to ministry. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Elizabethtown College before continuing his theological studies at Bethany Theological Seminary, where he obtained a Master of Divinity. His calling led him to serve as a minister in the Church of the Brethren for over six decades. He also played a pivotal role in establishing a new Brethren church in North Carolina.
After retiring from full-time ministry, Irving continued serving others through his work at Rader Funeral Home from 1996 to 2018. His compassionate presence provided comfort to many during their times of loss. He also spent time as a piano and organ salesperson, sharing his love for music with others.
Music was an integral part of Irving’s life. An avid pianist and barbershop singer, he was actively involved with the Blue Ridge Blend Quartet and other musical groups. He also enjoyed cross-stitching, traveling, and was an active member of Kiwanis. Later in life, he developed a deep affection for dogs, finding joy in the companionship of Lady, Ralph, George, and Charlie.
Irving is survived by his loving wife, Carol Glover; sons, Mark Grider (Bobbie), Dale Grider (Faith Ann), Neil Grider, and Dale Glover (Cheryl); daughters, Tina Secrist (Frank), Elaine Wilson (Tad), and Judy Nelson (Andy); along with 19 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
