The Lord Botetourt volleyball team keeps rolling along. The Cavaliers improved to 11-0 with a three-set win over Cave Spring on Monday.
Botetourt beat the Knights 25-12, 25-19 and 25-22 as they dominated a team that was once their nemesis. Miette Veldman had 16 kills and 19 digs to lead LB while Lara Veldman had 15 kills, 14 digs and three aces. Jordyn Kepler had 35 assists and Mary Randall Plunkett served up six aces.
With the sweep the Cavaliers have now won 33 of 35 sets this season. The only two they lost were against Blacksburg, but they beat the Bruins home and away by four sets each. LB hosted Staunton River on Tuesday but results were too late for publication.
Last Tuesday, in Blacksburg, the Bruins took the first set, 25-16, in what would be LB’s closest match of the season thus far. Botetourt bounced back to edge Blacksburg in the next two, 25-23 and 26-24, then turned it on to win the fourth set, 25-18.
Miette Veldman led LB with 21 kills, 23 digs, three blocks and an ace. Lara Veldman had 18 kills, 12 digs and three aces. Kenleigh Gunter had 20 digs and Kepler had 48 assists.
On Thursday of last week the Cavaliers hosted their annual “Dig Pink” charity night and they eased by William Byrd in three, 25-9, 25-10 and 25-21. Miette had 17 kills and Lara had nine in this one. Catherine Reinard had seven kills and two blocks, Kepler had 42 assists and Alexis Ellie had seven digs and two aces.
The Cavs are now off for the rest of the week following Tuesday’s match with Staunton River. They’ll return to action next Tuesday with a home match against Northside.
