A Botetourt grand jury returned indictments against 40 individuals when in met August 6 in Fincastle.
Among the indictments are one certified indictment for sexual assault against Erich Wenzel Gass of Buchanan and six counts each of sodomy, object sexual penetration and sexual battery that date to the 1990s.
Indictments for embezzlement were returned against three individuals and certified indictments were returned against two individual for possession of child pornography.
