Elmer Wayne Gray, 79, of Troutville, passed away at Lewis Gale Medical Center on September 19, 2022.
A native of Virginia he was born on November 13, 1942. Wayne was the husband of Barbara Slone Gray, who survives, and the son of James Kenneth Gray and Georgia Simmons Gray, both deceased. Wayne graduated from Blacksburg High School. He retired from Mechanical Development in Salem after many years of service.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Michael Wayne Gray and wife Elaine of Salem and Jeffrey Todd Gray and wife Debra of Nashville, Tenn.; known as Papa to his five grandchildren, Zachary Gray, Meaghan Gray, and Makayla Gray, all of Nashville, Tenn., and Ashleigh Gray and Allison Gray, both of Salem; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Douglas and Charlene Slone, Evelyn and Vince Clark, and Noel and Sharon Slone.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Betty East and husband Walter.
The family received friends at Lotz Funeral Home in Salem on Saturday, September 24, from 2 until 3 p.m. A graveside service followed in Sherwood Memorial Park with the Rev. Gary Kingery officiating.
