Freshman Austin Harper of Lord Botetourt shot a 35 in a nine-hole Blue Ridge District match at the Westlake Country Club in Hardy last week. That was good for medalist honors in his first district match.
Teammate Kaitlyn Mosdell had the second best score of the day, one stroke behind Harper at 36. LB was the team winner with an overall score of 153, six shots better than Franklin County’s 159. William Byrd had 176, followed by Staunton River at 191, William Fleming at 193 and Northside at 201.
“That was a good start for a freshman,” said LB coach Todd Smith. “It probably helped that a couple of the better golfers didn’t have good rounds.”
One of those “better golfers” was LB’s own Samir Davidov, who shot 40 just a week after winning individual honors in the Metro Tournament. He had the third best score for the Cavaliers, and Kyle Lograsso rounded out LB’s total with a 42.
Last week’s match was hosted by Staunton River, and this Tuesday the BRD was scheduled to return to Westlake with Franklin County as host. This week’s match was scheduled for 18 holes.
Next week William Byrd will host the district with a match at Blue Hills on Tuesday, August 27.
