Several hundred fishermen gathered on the banks of Jennings Creek Saturday morning for the annual Heritage Trout Day. The Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (DGIF) closes then stocks about 20 streams (including Jennings Creek) with trout on the Friday before the first Saturday of April. Then, on Saturday morning, the DGIF opens the streams to fishing again, providing an experience similar to the old “opening day of trout season.” The day has proved very popular on Jennings Creek, and it provides the isolated Jennings Creek Gospel Church with a fundraiser when members of the church cook breakfast and lunch for the fishermen.
