The Lord Botetourt and James River sports teams are working hard with the fall season approaching. Football and volleyball teams will stay busy in the coming week.
The LB football team will have a scrimmage Thursday at Emory & Henry, alma mater of Cavalier coach Jamie Harless, against Dobyns-Bennett High of Tennessee. The Cavaliers will scrimmage next Thursday, August 22, at Jefferson Forest before opening the season at home on Friday, August 30, against E.C. Glass.
James River is at Nelson County for the Knights’ first scrimmage this Friday. They will host Rockbridge County in Springwood for an August 23 scrimmage, then open at Buffalo Gap on August 30.
The James River volleyball team participated in a preseason jamboree at Liberty High School last Saturday and was undefeated on the day, including wins over Class 5 Patrick Henry and Class 3 Cave Spring, William Byrd and Amherst. The Knights will host Rockbridge for their second scrimmage next Tuesday, then open at Lord Botetourt on August 27.
The Cavaliers are working hard under new head coach Samantha Wilkins. Their first scrimmage is today at Brookville, followed by a home scrimmage with Hidden Valley on Thursday, August 22, before hosting River in the season opener on August 27.
