High school winter sports begin next week

Some cold weather finally blew in last week, just in time for the start of indoor sports. Both Lord Botetourt and James River will finish scrimmaging this week to prepare for the start of the winter sports season.

The LB girls were scheduled to have a basketball scrimmage at Alleghany on Tuesday of this week. This Saturday the boys will scrimmage at Greenbrier East, with the jayvees at 2:30 p.m. and the boys to follow.

Next Monday, December 2, the LB girls open the season for real at Spotswood, and they’ll have their first home basketball game on December 5 against Patrick Henry. The boys are home December 6 as they host Alleghany for their opener.

The James River boys basketball team was scheduled to scrimmage Auburn at home Monday and at Rockbridge on Wednesday of this week. The girls were scheduled to host Northside on Tuesday.

Next Tuesday, December 3, the boys will host Parry McCluer for their regular season basketball opener. On Wednesday of next week the basketball girls open at Waynesboro and the River wrestling team is at Glenvar for their season debut.

The boys basketball team is home again on Thursday, December 5, and on Friday the 6th the girls hoopsters are home against Heritage, the boys basketball team is at Bath County and the wrestlers are in the Titan Toughman tournament at Hidden Valley High School.
