The Elizabeth and Israel Christian Scholarship and the Pat Simmons/Sally Eads Volunteer Scholarship is offered annually by HFI as a way to commemorate the history of Fincastle and encourage and support college students. The mission of Historic Fincastle, Inc. is to support the preservation of the historical, physical and cultural resources of Fincastle, Virginia and its surroundings. The scholarship is funded by the proceeds received from the various fundraising events and member and corporate donations.
The scholarship requirements are that the student be a current senior at Lord Botetourt or James River High School, planned enrollment as an undergraduate in the fall semester of 2017, recommendations, resume, photo, and essay. Each scholarship has a different application. Two scholarships will be given, once from each category, to two seniors at each high school.
Since 1999, HFI has awarded The Elizabeth and Israel Christian scholarship and since 2016, the Pat Simmons/Sally Eads Volunteer Scholarship to college students totaling over $15,500 to date. This year will be the 18th year of the HFI Scholarship Program. The deadline postmark is March 31. For the online applications, check the websites at LBHS or JRHS.
