Organizers of the Historic Fincastle Festival on September 28 are delighted that a favorite and important part of this event will again be joining in the fun. Jeff Briggs and the Revolutionary War Interpreters will have their encampment at the James Matten Early 18th century cabin with displays of weapons, textiles, toys, and other aspects of life during America’s fight for independence.
This group, the Fincastle Company, is made up of a group of dedicated living historians who portray both military and civilian roles during the time of the American War of Independence. They conduct extensive research and documentation on all the clothing and equipment used by them in order to be as accurate to the period as possible. The group performs living history displays at various historical sites in the Mid-Atlantic region. They specifically portray the Fincastle/Montgomery County Militia that was an actual unit from Southwestern Virginia that served in the American Revolution.
Make sure to include a stop at this historic venue during the festival, and spend time with the Native American Monacan descendants who will also be at the historic cabin ready to share their culture and amazing history on Saturday, September 28, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
(Future dates/locations for these interpreters: 10/5, Yates Tavern, Gretna; 10/12-13, Wilderness Road Museum; 10/18-19, New London Days, Lynchburg; 10/26-27, Frontier Culture Museum, Staunton)
