Fern Greenway Holliday, 67, of Roanoke, and recently of Friendship Manor Assisted Living, died Tuesday, February 13, 2024. She was born August 15, 1956, daughter of the late Maynard L. and Dorothy T. Greenway.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Holly “Doc” Holliday, in 2008.

She was a 1974 graduate of Lord Botetourt High School, and a 1978 graduate of Hollins University. She had a wide and varied work career and retired from the United States Post Office. She volunteered time working with various churches, the local Dalmatian rescue group and women’s support services.

Fern is survived by her sisters, Donna David, Paula and Greg Hudson, and Nita Eldred; nieces and nephews, Keiana Eldred, Jamie Hudson, Kaylee Eldred and fiancé, Eric Hughes, Brandon David and wife, Nicole; great-nieces and -nephews, Gavin Hudson, Kyra Wright, and Eason and Emory David; and many friends and extended family members.

Fern held a deep religious faith and looked forward in anticipation to joining her Lord and Savior when it was time. She was a kind soul with a big heart, but she was resilient, and her smile and kindness hid a fierce warrior who overcame many dark moments, but never let those demons turn her cruel or leave her without hope.

The funeral service was held at 12 noon on Monday, February 19, 2024, at Oakey’s North Chapel with the Rev. Chris Kingery officiating. Interment followed in Daleville Cemetery. The family received friends on Sunday afternoon, February 18, 2024, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Oakey’s North Chapel. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.Oakeys.com.
