The Virginia, Maryland & Delaware Association of Electric Cooperatives (VMDAEC) board of directors took action at their July 24 annual meeting to elect officers for 2017-2018.
Serving as chairman of the VMDAEC board is James E. Huffman, a retired educator and farmer from Fincastlewho represents Craig-Botetourt Electric Cooperative. Petersburg businessman Herbert Patrick serves on the board of Prince George Electric Cooperative and was elected to serve as the board’s vice chairman.
Fletcher B. “Bob” Jones, an insurance agent from Boydton, represents Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative and was elected to serve as the VMDAEC board’s secretary/treasurer.
“Each of these officers also serves on the board of their local electric cooperative and on one or more of the association’s 10 committees,” said Richard G. Johnstone, CEO of VMDAEC. “We truly depend upon their commitment to provide input on how to expand and improve the services we provide our member cooperatives.”
Founded in 1944, VMDAEC is the trade association for 15 customer-owned, not-for-profit electric distribution cooperatives that serve Delaware, Maryland and Virginia. The Glen Allen-based association provides its member cooperatives with employee and director education, safety training, government relations, and communications services, including publishing Cooperative Living magazine, whose circulation in excess of 510,000 makes it the largest in the state.
