According to a press release from the Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office, Edward Colman Barbour, age 46 of Roanoke, is suspected to have entered a home with a firearm on the 3300 block of Ball Park Road in Eagle Rock on Thursday evening, demanding the resident’s car keys.
The resident that Barbour confronted called out to another resident of the home, which prompted Barbour to start firing his weapon inside the home. The other resident retrieved a firearm and returned fire, striking Barbour.
Deputies responded to the call at about 4:30 p.m. and upon arrival found Barbour lying in the front yard with an apparent gunshot wound to the neck.
Barbour was then secured and transported to a hospital where he received medical attention.
The release notes that the residents of the home claim not to have known Barbour.
The Sheriff’s Office’s preliminary investigation found that Barbour was dropped off by family members in the Eagle Rock area three weeks earlier. As a result, he was apparently attempting to return to Roanoke.
Barbour is currently being held at the Botetourt Craig County Regional Jail without bond.
At this time, he is charged with breaking and entering and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. More charges are pending.
