Irene C. Backman, 95, of Buchanan, was welcomed by angels on April 19, 2022.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy L. Backman. Irene lived her entire life, until the age of 92, in Buchanan. She moved to Richmond to receive supportive care as her health declined, but her heart was always in Buchanan. She was very active in the Town Improvement Society, the Rebekah Lodge, Buchanan Baptist Church, the Red Hat club and all things Buchanan until she was unable to continue those activities.
She is survived by two children, Jennifer Backman and LaVonne Durcan, as well as five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held at Botetourt Funeral Home on Sunday, April 24 from 3 to 5 p.m. A graveside service was held Monday, April 25 at 2 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery in Buchanan. Online condolences may be made at www.botetourtfuneralhome.com or 540-254-3000.
