James Norman Dooley, “PawPaw,” 80, of Fincastle, joined his wife of 52 years, Susie Dooley, in Heaven on Monday, February 28, 2022.
Along with his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Martha Dooley; brother, Raymond Dooley; sister, Margie Hammond; and granddaughter, Angela Crabb.
Norman was a man of few words but lived his life for his children and especially his grandchildren. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying teaching the younger kids how to safely handle firearms, and just enjoying the simple things life had to offer. Being a walking “miracle” according to the wonderful folks at the Blue Ridge Cancer Center (his angels, Alana, Elizabeth, and Dr. Skelton) and his faith in the Lord gave him much more time than anticipated.
He is survived by his daughters, Lorrie (Dean) Sirry, Jamie (Donald) Dooley; son, Donnie (Carol) Dooley; grandchildren, Heather Bring, Dustin Crabb, Cody Dooley, Dr. Dorothy Easter, Jenny Dooley, pawpaw’s special softball buddy, Kaylin Bousman; great-grandchildren, Haley, Tyler, Layla, Kaydence, Sierra, Hunter, Bella, Jack, Jacklyn, Owen and James; great-great-grandchildren, Angel and Roman; sister, Nancy Piner; pet companion, Tiny; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held 1 p.m. Friday, March 4, in Godwin Cemetery. The family received friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, March 3, at the Buchanan Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at www.botetourtfuneralhome.com or 540-254-3000.
