James R. “Bob” Jeans, 93, of Daleville, passed away Saturday, December 5, 2020 at The Glebe in Daleville.

Bob was born in St. Louis, Mo., April 19, 1927 and was the son of the late John B. and Elizabeth A. Fisher Jeans. He grew up in Jefferson City, Mo., and lived at Smith Mountain Lake for 15 years before moving to The Glebe in 2014.

Bob served in the US Navy and was a graduate of University of Missouri with a degree in electrical engineering. While in college, he worked part-time as a broadcast engineer for two radio stations.  Bob worked with ITT Laboratories in Nutley, N.J., from 1950 to 1970 where he designed avionics equipment for the U.S. Air Force. While with ITT, Bob received his Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Stevens Institute in Hoboken, N.J. In 1970, he worked for the CIA in McLean, Va., as an engineer in the Science and Technology Division.

Bob is survived by his wife of 67 years, Margaret “Peggy” Brolly Jeans; his children: Carol (Bill) of Gainesville, Va., Elaine (Mike) Dewey of Centerville, Va,. Bob (Liz) Jeans of Glade Hill, Va., Jim (Leslie) Jeans of Reston, Va., John (Kristie) Jeans of Shawnee, Okla.; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass celebrating Bob’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 11 at Church of the Transfiguration, 7624 Roanoke Road, Fincastle with the Rev. Fr. Stephen McNally officiating.  Burial with military honors will follow at 2:30 Friday at Resurrection Catholic Church Cemetery, 15353 Moneta Road, Moneta.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Glebe Benevolent Fund, 200 The Glebe Boulevard, Daleville, 24083.
