James River will have nine athletes competing in the Class 2 track meet at James Madison University this Saturday. The Knights qualified in last week’s Region 2C meet at Appomattox.
The River girls were third and the boys were sixth as Glenvar swept the Region 2C meet. The River girls had two champions as Morgan Marshall won the triple jump in 32’ 10 ½” and Avery Word won the discus at 109’ 4”. Word was also second in the shot put at 33’ 10” and Marshall was runner-up in the 200-meter dash at 28.67.
Vanessa Lima placed in four individual events. She was second in the 100 at 13.55, second in the long jump at 14’ 6 ½”, third in the triple jump at 31’ 7” and fourth in the 200 meters in 28.88. Lima, Marshall, Rachel Hix and Ella Wright combined to take second in the 400-meter relay with a time of 54.55.
For the boys, Ben Bailey placed in three events for the Knights, taking second in the triple jump at 39’ 3”, fourth in the long jump at 20” 9’ and fourth in the high jump at 5’ 8”. Andrew Fowler was third in the discus with a toss of 106’ 1 ½” and Hunter Forbes was fourth in triple jump at 37’ 2 ½”.
