James River High School inducted two Athletic Hall of Fame classes at the school on Friday, October 1. The ceremony was supposed to be in conjunction with the football game with Glenvar. That game was called off due to COVID concerns but the ceremony went on as scheduled.
Both the 2020-21 and 2021-22 classes were recognized. The 2020 induction ceremony had been previously postponed due to the pandemic.
The 2020-21 Hall of Fame class includes Harry Falls, Patrick Bennett, Casie Hill, Jenna Sprinkle and Reanna Wyatt.
Falls coached sports at James River for 26 years. He was head baseball coach for eight years following 16 years as an assistant. He was also head wrestling coach for four years and a football assistant for 16. He was a part of 12 district championship teams, and took the baseball team to the state semifinals in 2005.
Bennett is a 2010 graduate of James River who was a standout in basketball for four years, played four years on the golf team and also was on the track team for three years. Patrick was a member of the 2010 state championship basketball team and was selected first team all-state that season. He scored over 1,400 points for the Knights.
Hill is a 2013 graduate who was a four-year standout in softball and also played volleyball for two years. In softball she was Honorable Mention All-State her senior year before going on to play at James Madison University.
Also a 2013 graduate, Sprinkle played softball and volleyball for River. She was on the 2011 state championship softball team and in 2013 she was the district, region and state Player of the Year.
Wyatt, a third member of the Class of 2013, was a key member of the 2012 and 2013 outdoor track state championship teams. She still holds the school records for the 100 meters, the 200 meters, the long jump and the triple jump. She won the 100 meters in the state meet in 2010.
The 2021-22 Class of inductees includes Philip King, Mike Hamm, Jonathan Falls, Haily Cook and Cheyenne Falls.
King was the head football coach at James River for a dozen years, coaching district championship teams in 2008, 2012 and 2013. He was named Pioneer District Coach of the Year twice and WSLS Coach of the Year in 2006.
Hamm is a 1986 graduate of James River High who participated in football, basketball and track. Mike won the state high jump and long jump and held school records for over 20 years.
Jonathan Falls is a 2011 graduate and the son of 2020-21 inductee Harry Falls. Jonathan played football and baseball and wrestled for James River, earning 11 letters. In 2011 he won a state championship in wrestling and was recognized as the Scarlet Knight Award winner.
Cook is a 2012 graduate and she was a softball and volleyball standout. She was teammates with Hill and Sprinkle on some outstanding softball teams.
Cheyenne Falls, a 2011 grad, played basketball for four years and ran track for three. She taught English in China after obtaining her master’s degree from Mary Washington, where she holds the women’s shot put record. She is currently the head indoor and outdoor track coach at Spotsylvania High School.
