Radford High School was the site for the Three Rivers District wrestling tournament last Saturday and James River took third out of seven schools. Alleghany was first and Patrick County took second place.
River had only nine wrestlers competing in the 14 weight classes and put five in the finals with three winning district championships, Xaiden Wynn at 113, Brayden Forbes at 132 and Nate Stewart at 144.
Wynn, who recently won his 100th match at River, is now 35-1. He tech falled Jack Yetzer of Glenvar in the final at 113.
Forbes is 36-2 at 132. He defeated Ben Knight of Patrick County with a major decision to win his district championship.
At 144, Stewart is now 21-5. He also won by tech fall in the final, defeating Tristan Madison of Alleghany.
Other place winners for the Knights included seconds by Cavann Hoelzle at 120 and Josiah Merchant at 138. Thirds were won by Silas Whitson at 106 and CJ Mullins at 190. Ryan Daniels was fourth at 150 and Georgia Miller took sixth at 126.
The Region 2C meet is scheduled for this Saturday at Liberty High School in Bedford. Wrestling starts at noon.
