Jean McClurkin Claunch, 81, of Eagle Rock, returned to her heavenly Father Wednesday, April 27, 2022.
Jeanie was born August 20, 1940 in Carmel-by-the-Sea, Calif., the daughter of the late Dr. John I. McClurkin Jr. and Mona Buercklin McClurkin, and lived in Eagle Rock for the past 50 years.
Jeanie received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Languages from Randolph-Macon College and was a teacher at Eagle Rock Elementary School for several years. She served as choir director at Eagle Rock United Methodist Church and later at Fincastle United Methodist Church, where she currently was a member.
Jeanie was an avid bird watcher and enjoyed gardening vegetables and flowers. She and her husband Ed travelled extensively around the country, hiking and viewing waterfalls, as well as exploring the local Botetourt County mountains. She had visited over a hundred major waterfalls.
Jeanie is survived by her husband of 60 years, Jon Edward Claunch; sons: Eric (Wendy) Claunch of Eagle Rock, and Chris (Carrie) Claunch of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren, Dr. Natalie Claunch (Patrick Miller), Valerie Claunch, Catherine Claunch, and Caroline Claunch (fiancé, Ben Mosley); and one brother, John I. McClurkin, III (Jo Ann Carlton).
A memorial service celebrating Jean’s life was held Tuesday, May 3 at Rader Funeral Home, Daleville with Pastor Kwangmin Shin officiating.
