Joyce Bowman Johnson, 80, of Fincastle, passed away on May 12, 2025.
She was the wife of the late James W. (Jimmy) Johnson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dennis Lucky Bowman and Mary Frances Holland Bowman; sister, Marlene Grisso (Charlie); brother, Dennis Eugene Bowman; sister-in-law, Rheta Crowder (Herbert); and brother-in-law, Emanuel Spickard.
Joyce was born on April 9, 1945, in Roanoke. She graduated from Lord Botetourt High School in 1963. She was married to the love of her life, Jimmy, for 60 years. Together they owned and operated a successful dairy and beef cattle farm. With Jimmy, she enjoyed farming, gardening, and creating memories that would last a lifetime. Additionally, Joyce worked as a school secretary for Botetourt County Public Schools for 40 years. Her passion was being an active part of her grandchildren’s lives, whether sharing the love of the farm, cooking, watching sports with Jack or supporting Kaeli in all of her musical and artistic endeavors. Her life was a beautiful example of faith in God, hard work, perseverance, love, and the importance of family and friends.
She is survived by her dearly loved family: daughter, Kristi Johnson Berry (Alan); grandchildren, Jack and Kaeli Berry; sister-in-law, Carolyn Sue Spickard; nieces and nephews, Cindy Grisso, Connie Grisso, Greg Grisso, David Crowder, Suzanne Calvert, Greg Spickard, Keith Spickard, Angie Spickard Reo, and their extended families.
On Monday, May 19, 2025, the family received friends from 12 noon until 2 p.m. at Oakey’s North Chapel. The funeral services began at 2 p.m. with Pastor Danny Quirin officiating. Burial was in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
