Liberty University in Lynchburg hosted the Virginia High School League Class 2 state indoor track meet last week with the Bruton High boys and Lee girls winning state championships. The James River boys were 13th and the girls finished 14th in the meet.
The Knights had two second place finishes by siblings Kaia and Gavin Binns. Kaia was second in the girls 55-meter dash in 7.50 and Gavin was second in the boys 55 in 6.59. Gavin also took 13th in the long jump with a leap of 19’.
Taking a third was Jayden Alston in the boys shot put. He sent the big ball 49’ 9.5”.
For the girls, Denver Rinehart was sixth in the 300 dash and seventh in the 55 meters. The 4×200 relay team of Binns, Rinehart, Jordyn Simmons and Rhaya Kitt took sixth in 1:56.29. Gretchen Huffman was ninth in the shot put.
