James Joseph “Jim” Keenan, Sr., 76, of Troutville, passed away following a brief illness.
Jim was born in Trenton, New Jersey January 16, 1947 and lived in Troutville for 48 years. He was the son of the late James Henry Keenan and Margaret Julia Hudick Keenan who survives.
Jim proudly served in The United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He was an avid man-about-town, but mostly, he loved spending time with his grandkids, whether it was having breakfast with Ryan, watching Conner play basketball, watching Jenna play soccer and rolling the dice with Emilee when she was younger which continued with his other grandkids.
In addition to his father, Jim was preceded in death by his brother, Patrick Keenan. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sue Graybill Keenan; son, James J. “Jay” Keenan, Jr. of Montvale; daughters: Erin P. Keenan and LeAnn Keenan Gregory, both of Roanoke; grandchildren: Emilee (Cole) Matthews, Ryan Patrick Dowdy, Jenna Elizabeth Nardone, and Conner Bradley Dowdy; great-granddaughter, Isla; his mother, Margaret Keenan; and “Tommy.”
A private service remembering Jim with full military honors was held. Jim’s family received friends 2-4 p.m. Saturday, January 21 at Rader Funeral Home, Daleville.
