Guy Raymond Kidd, 92, of Fincastle, passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2020.
He was the son of the late John Emory and Lucy Mebane Brown Kidd. Guy was born and raised in Roanoke County, where he graduated from William Fleming High School in 1945. He attended and played basketball at Roanoke College until being drafted into the US Army. Guy married Mae Clingenpeel in 1952 and moved his family to Botetourt County in 1963. He was the past President of J.E. Kidd & Sons Inc., a construction company started by his father in 1922 in which he took much pride. He was a carpenter and a craftsman and his work adorns the entire Roanoke Valley. He retired in 2005 and passed the company down to his son, Steve. Guy was always happiest when working, especially outdoors. He loved working on their family farm from feeding the cows on the coldest of winter days to making hay on the hottest of summer days. He also enjoyed planting a huge garden and sharing his vegetables with his neighbors and friends. Guy was a family man who dearly loved his wife and took great pride in his two sons, their wives and his grandchildren. He was a loving “Papa” who attended many 4-H livestock shows, baseball games and other activities in which his grandchildren participated. He was very excited when his first great-grandchild arrived in January 2020. Guy was a long-time member of Cloverdale Church of the Brethren, where over the years he served as a deacon, youth Sunday School teacher and Chairman of the Board. He also served as moderator at Pleasant Dale Church of the Brethren, Trinity Church of the Brethren and Daleville Church of the Brethren.
Guy was preceded in death by his parents, John Emory and Lucy Mebane Brown Kidd, and his three sisters and two brothers, Lucy Mildred Kidd, John Howard Kidd, Warren Douglas Kidd, Alice Brown Campbell and Nancy Louise Kidd.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Mae Clingenpeel Kidd; sons and daughters-in-law, Steven and Sandra Kidd of Fincastle; Mark and Anne Kidd of Roanoke; grandchildren, Ryan Kidd and wife Jordan, Jessika Kidd Fisher and husband Cory, Dylan Kidd, and Sean Kidd; and one great-granddaughter, Emerson Mae Kidd.
