Mary Russell Kirby, 101, of Roanoke, died on Thursday, December 22, 2022 at Carrington Place, Daleville. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifton and Fannie Russell; brother, William Elmore Russell; sister, Ida Louise Russell; and husband of 68 years, Paxton Marshall Kirby, Jr.
Surviving are two loving sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Susie Kirby of Daleville and Glenn and Cathy Kirby of Fredericksburg. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Darren Kirby and wife, Maryanne, Scott Kirby and wife, Susan, Christi Kirby Hursta and husband, Michael, and Erin Kirby Finley and husband, Tom; eight great-grandchildren, Alison and Paxton Kirby, Joshua and Peyton Kirby, Claire and Matthew Hursta, and Lawson and Morgan Finley; and beloved nieces and nephews.
Mary Frances was born in Waterford, Va., and lived in Falls Church, Alexandria and Springfield until moving to Roanoke in 1976. Mary Kirby worked for the C&P Telephone Company and Kresge. She enjoyed playing Bingo and Scrabble in her later years.
Mary’s final resting place will be beside her husband in Union Cemetery, Leesburg, Va.
