At its regular meeting on Monday, the Botetourt Kiwanis Club welcomed two new members, Patti Suite and Jay Kilby. Club member Les Talbot presided over the installation. Suite was sponsored by Chuck and Carole Geiger and Kilby was sponsored by Hiawatha Nicely. The meeting took place at Frank’s Pizza in Cloverdale, with some members joining via Zoom.
The cub also gave club member and former Kiwanis Lieutenant Governor Hiawatha Nicely the George F. Hixson Fellowship award for his long service to Kiwanis and to the Kiwanis priority of serving the children of the world. The award was accompanied by a special contribution by Kiwanis Club members to the Kiwanis children’s fund.
Club President Ed Lynch announced coming social events, including a potluck dinner at Waldron Park and an evening for club members at Putt-Putt golf.
At an earlier meeting, the club received more details about the recent projects of the James River Key Club. Isabella Erber and Matthew Guentzel told the club members of their “Virtual Dance Marathon,” and their efforts to secure grants for charitable projects.
The next meeting of the Botetourt Kiwanis Club will be on Friday, April 9 at 7:30 a.m. It will be a hybrid meeting, with some members gathering at One Love Coffee in Cloverdale.
