The James River track team competed in one of the larger early season track meets when the Knights traveled to Lynchburg last Saturday for the Vince Bradford Relays, hosted by E.C. Glass High School.
River had several athletes meet state qualifying standards. Conner Church finished sixth in both the 100- and 200-meter runs and qualified for the state meet in both. Church also ran on the 4×100 relay team. Michael Jorgensen was second in both the 1,600 and 3,200 while Silas Miller was fourth in the 3,200.
In the boys field events, George Toliver was fourth in the shot put and Brian Moran was sixth in the high jump.
In the girls meet, Emma Francis won the shot put with a state-qualifying heave. Navaeh Van Buren state qualified with a second place in the triple jump, and she also took third in the discus.
The River girls finished eighth and the boys were ninth as host Glass swept the team titles.
