Two Glenvar pitchers held James River to just two hits in shutting out the Knights last Friday in a spring break baseball game in Springwood. Glenvar took a 3-0 decision.
Coulter Hodges was the tough-luck loser on the mound for River. He kept the Knights in the game while the offense struggled, striking out 12 times against Glenvar pitchers Ryan Butler and Cody Alexander. Hodges went six innings and struck out five before Gabe Sebastino came on to record a three up-three down top of the seventh.
Glenvar took the lead with a run in the top of the first, then added runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
“We’re pitching well and playing decent defensively, but our hitting needs to come around,” said River coach Harry Falls.
The loss dropped the Knights to 2-3 overall and they were scheduled to host Giles on Tuesday. Two road games follow, with a game at Riverheads on Wednesday and at Alleghany on Thursday, both at 5 p.m.
