The James River track team hosted a spring meet on the new track for the first time last week as the Knights hosted Alleghany and Giles. River had a previous “polar bear” meet during the winter season when teams weren’t allowed to run indoors due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Both the River girls and boys had some strong performances on the new oval. In the girls meet, Avery Word won both the shot and discus while Morgan Marshall won the 200 and triple jump. Morgan also ran on the winning 4×100 relay along with Vanessa Lima, Rachel Hix and Ella Wright. Lima won the 100 dash and Kyleigh Mills won the 400.

For the boys, Canaan Clark won the discus and Isaac Bell took the long jump. Hunter Forbes won the 100 meters and was on the winning 4×400 team with Jacob Hill, Adam Coleman and Mason Stewart.

Today, the Knights will run at Radford.
