The James River baseball team will look to crack the win column with three games this week before taking off for spring break. River was scheduled to play at Northside Tuesday followed by a trip to Riverheads today and a home game with Staunton River on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
The Knights have opened their first season under new coach Chance Henry with three losses. After opening with a loss to Staunton River they played one of the top teams in Region 4C when they took on the Spartans at Salem’s Billy Sample Field last Wednesday and dropped a 28-2 game. The Salem bats were on fire as Salem scored 25 runs in the first two innings against three River pitchers. Only five of the runs were earned as Hunter Mays started, followed by Kody Park and Maddox Woodyard with little success against the hot hitting Salemites. Gabe Staton had two hits for River.
On Friday the Knights had their home opener against Riverheads and dropped a 14-1 decision in five innings. Logan Joyce started and four pitchers combined to give up just three earned runs of the 14 total as fielding errors continued to plague the Knights.
After this week’s action River will return after spring break with a trip to Alleghany on April 2.
