Keith Krzeminski, a Daleville resident, is competing in The Gauntlet Business Program and Competition this year.
For 25 years, he has worked for small and large companies that dealt in the tent rental business. Three years ago, he decided to start a business with one of his old partners. The company— Shelter Structures America— distributes large tent structures in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. It’s based in California. Krzeminski currently serves as the executive vice president of the company.
“I love the customization and the problem-solving aspect of the business,” he said. “I get to work with customers who want everything from a simple large tent to those who are wanting a large dome.”
In addition to dealing in large tents and structures, the company distributes glamping (glamourous camping) tents and domes. Krzeminski explained that his goal is to grow the glamping side of the business. “It’s a product line that the manufacturer has made for a number of years, but it’s an emerging market,” he said.
A desire to better understand business practices is what drove Krzeminski to enroll in The Gauntlet this year. “I’d always worked for a corporate-type scenario, so everything from best business practices to developing a marketing plan to take these new products to market is what I’m trying to get out of it,” he said. “I’m also looking to meet other local entrepreneurs.”
Having garnered several years of entrepreneurial experience, Krzeminski stressed the importance of having a good idea as one of the key components for success. “You need to have a passion and drive for your business, but you really need to have a plan to bring your product to market. The goal is to solve a need that is out there in the marketplace,” he said.
