The Lord Botetourt girls completed their second straight undefeated regular soccer season last week with a win over Staunton River. The Cavaliers shut out the Eagles, 4-0, in Daleville.
Botetourt got goals from Hannah Leonard, Sara Bane, Autumn Bonhotel and Mary-Randall Plunkett in the win. Leonard and Emily D’Arpa had assists.
With the win LB is 16-0 on the season, its second straight unbeaten regular season. Last year LB was 15-0-1 during the regular season, then won the Conference 31 tournament. The Cavaliers finished 17-1-1 after losing to Broadway in the Region 3A West opening round.
This year the Cavs hope to go deeper into the post-season with the Conference 31 tournament this week. Action opened Monday with two lopsided games as Rockbridge beat Magna Vista, 12-1, and Staunton River beat Alleghany, 7-1. Botetourt and second seeded Northside had first round byes.
The tournament was scheduled to continue with semifinals at Northside on Tuesday. LB was to play Staunton River and Northside had Rockbridge. The championship is Thursday at Northside at 7:15 p.m. and both finalists advance to Region 3A West play next week.
With the undefeated record in Blue Ridge District games, the Cavaliers also lay claim to the BRD season championship.
