The Lord Botetourt softball team is in the middle of a stretch of 14 days without a game for spring break. It couldn’t have come at a worse time the way the Cavs were playing.
The Botetourt girls had all the momentum on their side after routing Alleghany last week, 13-0, in five innings in Low Moor. LB had 15 hits in the game, including a single, a double and a grand slam home run by Kaitlyn Deeter.
Others who had a big day at the dish included Maia Folk, who had a single and a triple, while Emma Layman and Maranda Switzer had two hits each. Layman drove in two.
Hannah Mundy, Leah Carlton, Mary-Hannah Jackson, Lauren Hoffman, Maegan Barnes and Emma Tyler all had hits and Mundy also had two runs batted in. Deeter, Mundy and Barnes all had doubles.
Hoffman was the beneficiary of the offensive onslaught, as she breezed to a win on the mound. Lauren pitched all five innings and gave up just two hits, striking out six.
Now 7-1, the Cavaliers return to action on April 19 when they host county rival James River.
