The James River girls will have their work cut out for them when they open Class 2A, Region C basketball play this Friday night. River will go to Floyd County for an opening round game in the 13-team regional tournament.
Last Friday, River was at Floyd for the opening round of the Three Rivers tournament, and that didn’t go so well. The host Buffaloes took a 56-10 win in a dominating performance. Floyd led 42-4 at the half and 54-7 after three quarters before calling off the dogs.
“Floyd jumped on us fast and things didn’t get any better, but our girls didn’t give up,” said River coach E.D. Schechterly. “We only had eight players and two of our starters were out with the flu, but our girls, no matter what the outcome, will play hard for the entire game no matter how it ends up.”
Floyd improved to 15-8 with the win while River dropped to 2-20. The girls lost back-to-back games to Carroll County last week to end the regular season.
