The Hanging Rock Golf Course in Roanoke County will be the site of the final Blue Ridge District golf “mini match” today, beginning at 1 p.m. The regional tournament will be Monday in Botetourt County.
The Cavaliers go into today’s match with an insurmountable lead in team competition. Botetourt has a total of 997 over 60 holes played in four previous matches. Franklin County is 90 strokes behind at 1,087, followed by Northside at 1,119, William Byrd at 1,242 and Staunton River at 1,348.
Individually, LB’s Samir Davidov has a healthy lead in the individual rankings. He has accumulated 108 points in the BRD point system and two teammates follow, Ashton Harper with 94 and Kaitlyn Mosdell with 79. Davidov has played even par for the combined total of the four courses played.
Last week’s match was held at Mariner’s Landing, and for the first time Davidov did not shoot par or better as he carded a three-over 69 for the 16 holes played, with par at 66. However, Mosdell managed to shoot even par to earn medalist honors for the first time this season and Harper was just one stroke back at 67. Also scoring for LB was Jake Koffman with a four-over 70 as the Cavaliers shot just eight over par as a team. Dylan Salvi had 75 and Trey Sharp came in at 81.
“Everyone played well,” said LB coach Todd Smith. “I’m really proud of Kaitlyn for earning medalist honors for the day.
After today’s match at Hanging Rock the Cavaliers will turn their attention to Monday’s Region 3D tournament. That will be played at a familiar course for Botetourt golfers as the Ashley Plantation will be the site of the regional.
