The Lord Botetourt baseball team has a busy schedule before taking off next week for spring break. The Cavaliers have three games, including two against Blue Ridge District opponents.
LB was scheduled to play at Northside Tuesday, and today Patrick Henry comes to Daleville for a non-district game. On Friday the Cavaliers will be in Vinton to play William Byrd at Walthall Park in their final game before next week’s spring break.
LB is 6-4 overall after splitting two games last week. The Cavaliers opened the district season with a 12-0 shutout of Staunton River in Moneta. Junior Brae Farrell struck out 11 before leaving with two outs in the sixth inning. He allowed just two hits while picking up the win.
This game was closer than the score indicates. It was scoreless after four innings before the LB offense exploded, hanging three on the board in the fifth, six in the sixth and three more in the seventh.
Sophomore Kyle Arnholt was two-for-three with four runs batted in for the Cavaliers while older brother Jared Arnholt also had two hits.
On Thursday the Cavaliers hosted Pulaski County and dropped a non-district game, 6-5.
The Cavaliers trailed 6-2 into the bottom of the seventh but almost pulled it out. A two-run triple by Jake Dewease made it 6-4, then Meade Mayo singled in Jake to cut the lead to 6-5 with just one out. However, the Cavs left the potential winning runs on first and second at the Cougars got out of the jam and escaped with the win.
Nick Lancaster started on the mound for LB and took the loss while Jared Arnholt pitched three and a third innings of solid relief.
