LB basketball teams in 3-day holiday tournaments; River boys at Nelson County Fri., girls are off until Jan. 4

The Lord Botetourt basketball teams will be busy over the holiday break as both teams will play in three-day holiday tournaments.

The LB boys will be playing in the annual K-Guard Holiday Classic at the Salem Civic Center, hosted by Cave Spring. It will begin on Thursday, Dec. 28, and continue through December 30.

Lord Botetourt will open with a game against Hidden Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Salem and William Fleming tip-off the tournament at 3 p.m. and there will also be two evening games, with Jefferson Forest meeting Broadway at 6 p.m. and Cave Spring against Floyd County at 7:30 p.m..

Thursday’s winners will meet in the semifinals on Friday at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., with consolation bracket games in the afternoon. The championship game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Saturday and there will be a seventh place game at 3 p.m., a fifth place game at 4:30 p.m. and a third place game at 6 p.m..

The Lord Botetourt girls will make their annual appearance in the Knights’ Winter Classic Tournament at Cave Spring High School, also running Thursday through Saturday. The eight-team tournament begins at 2 p.m. with Brookville, the 2016 tournament champ, meeting Chatham. Northside will play Abingdon at 3:45 p.m.

Botetourt will take the floor for the first time at 5:30 p.m. Thursday and the Cavaliers will be matched up against the Maroons of George Wythe. Host Cave Spring will close out the day with a 7:15 p.m. game against Floyd County.

Semifinals are Friday at 5:30 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. with consolation games in the afternoon. Saturday’s championship game is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. at Cave Spring with a seventh place game at 2 p.m., a fifth place game at 3:45 p.m. and a third place game at 5:30 p.m..

James River teams aren’t playing in holiday tournaments but the boys will be at Nelson County on December 29. The River boys will host Glenvar to start the New Year on January 3 and the girls return from the break at Glenvar on January 4.
