The Lord Botetourt boys basketball team will open Region 3D play with a home game on Friday. The final bracket wasn’t set at press time but the likely opponent is Bassett.
Botetourt ended the regular season Monday with an 81-63 win over Franklin County in Rocky Mount. That evened LB’s Blue Ridge District record at 5-5 and lifted the Cavaliers to 10-13 overall.
“A great way to end the regular season with an extremely balanced performance,” said coach Josh Aliveto. “We challenged the players before the game to play with great effort on offense and defense from the tip-off to the end and they did just that. This was a good win to head into the regional tournament.”
Botetourt had five players score in double digits. Blake Lovern led the way with 19, Braydon Whorley chipped in 13, Landon Hayes had 11 and Conner Dowdy had 10. Carson Edwards recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Brady Kish also had a productive night with nine points and seven assists.

It was a nice bounce-back win over a sub-par performance last Friday, when William Byrd beat the Cavs, 68-51, on “Senior Night.” Seniors recognized prior to the game were Edwards, Lovern, Dowdy, Whorley and Evan Klampfer.
“We had one of our worst nights shooting and Byrd played well on the offensive end,” said Aliveto.
Edwards led LB with 13 points along with 15 rebounds. Hayes had 12 points and Dowdy also contributed with eight points and three assists.
