The Lord Botetourt boys opened the 2024-25 basketball season at home last Friday night with a non-district game against Alleghany. It was the first game as head coach for LB’s Josh Aliveto and his Cavaliers came up just short, 75-69.
“I thought we did a good job of being patient on offense and had a decent shot selection throughout the game,” said Aliveto. “We need to improve in several areas on defense, especially with our transition defense.”
Offensively, Botetourt had four players in double figures with Braydon Whorley leading the way with 24. Blake Lovern had 15 points, Landon Hayes scored 13 and Brady Kish had 10. Carson Edwards chipped in with six rebounds and six assists.
The schedule gets busy for the Cavaliers this week with three games, all on the road. Botetourt was scheduled to play at Wilson Memorial on Tuesday, then back-to-back games against River Ridge teams with a trip to Salem Thursday and Pulaski County Friday.
“The film session did a good job of showing where we could do better and we should see improvement going into our second week of the season,” said Aliveto.
The Cavaliers return home next Tuesday to host James River.
