It hasn’t been often the Lord Botetourt boys have been able to beat Northside in basketball, so it was a satisfying victory when the Cavs beat the Vikings in Daleville last week. LB took a 56-52 win in overtime.

“A complete team effort to get this win as we had eight different players score,” said LB coach Josh Aliveto.

Brady Kish scored 10 of his 12 points in the fourth quarter and overtime, hitting two three-pointers and going two-for-two from the line. Rylan Lavinder led the LB scoring with 18 points and Jairdan Pennix had a balanced game with nine points and seven rebounds.

A night later the Cavs traveled to Salem for a non-district game and dropped a 70-49  decision to a strong Spartan team.

“We fell behind early against Salem with some poor decisions and shooting,” said Aliveto. “Against a team as talented as Salem you have to be able to eliminate mistakes and make the most of all opportunities if you want to give yourself a chance, and we did not do that.”

Landon Hayes scored 10 points and Kish contributed with nine points as the Cavs fell to 3-13 overall. They had a home game with Franklin County postponed on Tuesday and are scheduled to host Pulaski County tonight, Wednesday. That was still on at press time but in danger of being postponed as well due to the cold weather. Friday, the boys are scheduled to play at Staunton River and Saturday Parry McCluer comes here for a 5 p.m. game.

“We have four games scheduled this week,” said Aliveto. “We’ll see how many Mother Nature lets us get in.”
