The Lord Botetourt boys soccer team defeated Staunton River and William Byrd last week to improve to 5-2 in the Blue Ridge District and 7-3-2 overall and they battle for the top spot in the district.
Three teams came into the week with one loss each, Franklin County, Northside and William Fleming, but Fleming and Northside have two ties each and Franklin has one. The Cavaliers were scheduled to host Northside in a big game Tuesday, and next Tuesday, Franklin County comes here so things could be sorted out soon.
Against Staunton River the Cavaliers took a 6-0 win in Moneta. Dylan Salvi had a three-goal hat trick for LB and also scoring were Zach Ruhlman, Chase Peery and Cadyn Bowles. Jake Koffman and Hayden Martin combined to earn their first blank sheet as goalies this season.
Last Friday the Cavs traveled to William Byrd for another Blue Ridge District match up. The first half was a close battle, with Ruhlman netting the lone goal of the half to take a 1-0 lead. In the second half, the Cavaliers came alive with 10 minutes left in the game. LB jumped to a 4-0 lead with goals from Peery, Dylan Salvi and Cole Salvi. The Terriers scored their only goal with minutes left in the game off a penalty kick.
