The Lord Botetourt boys advanced to the semifinal round of the Region 3D soccer tournament with a 6-0 win over Abingdon in Daleville last Friday. The Cavaliers were scheduled to play at Christiansburg Tuesday in the semifinals.
Botetourt started quickly when Isaac Alderman got things started for the Cavaliers with a break away around the Falcons back line. On the second goal of the evening the Falcons had an error pass back to the keeper that slipped by into the goal for an own goal. Then, with a few minutes left in the half, LB had a corner kick trickle around the box to find Will Hall at the top, and Hall finished with a one timer to the right side to give the Cavaliers a 3-0 lead into the half.
In the second half Mateo Oviedo came out hot, finding back-to-back goals from the left side of the field. Then, with a little over 10 minutes remaining, Brody Nunley hit a beautiful shot from the right side of the field to beat the Falcons’ keeper.
JB Cook and Garrett Honts were in goal for the shutout as LB improved to 11-7 on the season. If the Cavaliers beat Christiansburg Tuesday they would advance to the region championship game against the winner of second seeded Magna Vista and sixth seeded William Byrd.
