The Lord Botetourt boys soccer team picked up two wins and climbed back to .500 on the season last week as the Cavs defeated William Byrd and Northside.
LB opened the week with a 3-1 win over Byrd in Daleville. Zach Ruhlman scored the first goal just four minutes into the game. Byrd responded to tie the game at 1-1, but Dylan Salvi found the net to put the Cavaliers up 2-1 at the half. Cadyn Bowles then sealed the deal with a goal in the second half for a 3-1 final.
On Thursday at Northside the Cavaliers needed double overtime to defeat the Vikings. LB came out hot with a goal from Ruhlman, then Bryson Harvey scored the Cavaliers’ second goal from a deflection to make it 2-0. A wild first half continued when Northside answered to close the gap to 2-1, but Salvi scored on a penalty kick to make it 3-1 with 21 minutes left in the first half.
The game stayed pretty even through the second half until Northside hit two free kicks to tie it up at 3-3. In the second overtime, Salvi found the back of the net to give the Cavs the winning goal and secure the 4-3 win.
The two wins lifted LB to 2-2 in Blue Ridge District play and 3-3-2 overall. LB was scheduled to host William Fleming in a rematch of a prior 1-0 loss for the Cavs in Roanoke. Tonight, Botetourt is at Brookville for a non-district game.
