The Lord Botetourt boys will open the Region 3D basketball tournament at home next Tuesday, February 25. The Cavaliers will play host to Carroll County in their opening tournament game, and it will be the second game of a doubleheader with the girls.
Carroll County is 12-9 on the season while LB comes in at 13-11 after falling to Northside in the semifinal round of the Blue Ridge District tournament last Friday. The Vikings took a 71-56 win over the Cavaliers, their third win over LB this season. Botetourt is hoping to get another shot at Northside as both are in the Region 3D tournament.
“We came out and lacked the toughness needed to give them a good battle,” said LB coach Andrew Hart. “We got outrebounded early in the game and were on the wrong side of a few plays. We did a great job in the 2nd half, playing hard and battling back, but our first half efforts certainly cost us any opportunity to win the game.”
Botetourt shot just 40 percent for the game and 23 percent on three point attempts. The Cavaliers were outrebounded 47-32 and on the Vikings end Northside had 20 offensive rebounds to equal LB’s defensive total.
Kyle Arnholt led LB with 12 points while Tanner Selkirk had 11 points and a team-high nine rebounds. Luke Hale had 10 points.
“We’re going to use this week to really work hard and improve heading into the region tournament,” said Hart.
