The Lord Botetourt boys soccer team will open Region 3D play at home Friday, hosting Abingdon at 6 p.m.
The Cavaliers head into the region tournament with a 10-7 record and shutout wins in their last two games. LB beat Northside, 2-0, and Franklin County, 3-0, in their final two regular season games.
At Northside, Isaiah Lankford found Will Hall, who hit a rocket into the back of the net for a 1-0 halftime lead. The Cavaliers added an insurance goal on a Lankford header after intermission and JB Cook picked up the shutout in goal.
The Cavs wrapped up the regular season at home with Franklin County Thursday and finished strong with a 3-0 win. In the first half, LB was able to find the back of the net twice. Josh Dickerson was able to make a deep throw into the box where Hall was able to get a head on the ball to beat the keeper. On the second goal of the half, Robbie Sanchez placed the ball into the box off a corner kick where the ball bounced off a defender right to Hall for a one touch shot over the keeper’s head.
During the second half, Hall was able to receive the ball down the right side of the field and when he hit the top of the box he placed a perfect cross to Lankford who took a beautiful volley to give LB the 3-0.
The All-Blue Ridge District team was announced this week and LB was well-represented. First team selections from Botetourt include Hall and Isaac Alderman at forward, Sanchez and Kalob Daniels at midfield and Jeremy Simmons and Josh Dickerson on defense as well as Cook in the goal. Lankford was named to the second team.
