The Lord Botetourt football Cavaliers will have their home football opener this Friday when the team hosts Altavista. Kickoff time is 7 p.m. and it will be Recreation Night in Daleville.
The Cavaliers are 2-0 after opening with wins on the road against Rye Cove and Rustburg. Altavista is a Region 1B school that played for the Class 1 championship last year. The Colonels were undefeated before losing to Essex in the championship game at Salem Stadium.
The Colonels are 1-1 thus far. They opened with a 21-14 loss to Lunenburg Central and last week they beat Riverheads in their home opener, 29-25. Lord Botetourt coach Jamie Harless was on hand to scout that game.
“They’re no pushover,” said Harless “They have a lot of speed and they’re very multiple on defense. They stunt a lot.”
The week off allowed Lord Botetourt to get healthy.
“We have everyone back but one,” said Harless.
The Lord Botetourt jayvees are at Altavista for a 6 p.m. game Thursday.
