The Lord Botetourt girls will open the 2025 portion of their basketball schedule tonight when they play host to Blacksburg in a non-district game. The Cavaliers finished their 2024 games with a perfect 10-0 record.
Botetourt was scheduled to open their Blue Ridge District schedule on Tuesday of this week with a home game against Staunton River but that game was postponed due to the early week storm. That was a highly anticipated game as both teams come into the week undefeated. No makeup date was announced as of press time.
The Cavs will now open their BRD schedule on Friday at William Byrd against the 4-6 Terriers. Next Tuesday the LB girls will host William Fleming.
Botetourt has not played since December 28 when the girls won at Abingdon, 54-36. The Cavaliers strangled the Falcon attack in the first half, holding them to just 13 points.
“We are relying on our defense and it’s been a focal point and strength for us so far this year,” said LB coach Renee Favaro.
Seniors led the way as Maddie Caron scored 18 to lead the Cavaliers while Madilyn Winterton scored a dozen and Abby Kingery had 10. Sophomore Maggie Hoover and junior Alicia Holmes took care of the boards with 11 rebounds each.
