The Lord Botetourt girls edged Hidden Valley in tennis last week, taking a 5-4 win on the Titans’ home courts.
Winners for LB were Abby Eggleston, Marina Wray and Rachel Williams in singles. LB took two of three doubles with Abby Pearl and Reagan Bullins winning at number one and Emma Blugerman and Williams winning at three.
The girls also played Alleghany last week and lost, 5-4. The match had four tie-break matches and Alleghany won three of the four.
The boys beat Alleghany, 7-2. Noah Bryant, LB’s number one, defeated the reigning Conference 31 champion at number one to highlight the win.
“This is a tough team and we had some very close matches,” said LB coach Peter Walton.
The boys lost to Hidden Valley, 8-1. The only winner for LB was Tucker Grimshaw at number six.
“The Hidden Valley team is amazing to watch,” said Walton. “Our doubles played well and we had some close games, but Hidden Valley is just too tough. I predict they will win it all this season.”
Both the boys and girls were rained out of Monday matches with William Fleming. On Friday the boys will host Staunton River at Hollins University and the girls be at Staunton River, and next week both teams are off for spring break.
